The Diabolic is about a girl named Nemesis who isn't really human, but Diabolic, which means she was created with superhuman strength and bonded to a human to protect her for the rest of her life. Nemesis is bonded to Sidonia, who one day is forced to be in the company of the unliked Emperor. To save Sidonia, Nemesis decides to disguise herself and go in her place.
The Diabolic was really slow for me in the beginning, and I was sure that I was going to DNF this book (and I never DNF books), but I'm so glad I stuck with it. It really picked up the pace around 100 pages in. There was fighting, a plot twist, romance, and a badass female protagonist. Those are my favorite types of books!
The romance was really cute. I loved Tyrus and Nemesis so much. It absolutely broke my heart when she tried to push him away. I was getting really into their romance but she ended up pretending like she didn't feel anything?? Stupid.
The writing was very fast-paced after you get through the introductory chapters. It seemed that each chapter ended up getting wilder and wilder.
Being in Nemesis's mind was really intriguing to me. As someone who rarely shows emotion herself and isn't that great at connecting with people (but obviously for much different reasons), it was nice to connect to a character that was almost the same.
Her understanding throughout the book that she was actually someone that could be cared about and loved made me so happy. She went through such a character development. Honestly, Nemesis is such a great and different character than what I'm used to, and it was nice to have this variety.
Definitely pick up this book if you love action and romance and sci-fi and dystopian(ish) books.
